Remote Watch Team (Signal): Listen. Chat. Learn. Take Action.

Session starts Wednesday, January 7, 2026. You don’t have to be an “expert” to help. All you need is a willingness to listen in, jump in the chat, and share what you’re hearing with other Missourians.

Think of this like a running “watch party” for Missouri politics: we’re listening to floor debates and committee hearings, comparing notes in real time, and helping each other understand what’s happening—especially when things move fast.

Join the Signal Watch Team

Join the group, say hello, and tell us what you’re listening to. You can contribute by posting quick notes, asking questions, or just following along until you’re comfortable.

Why this matters

Most of what changes our laws happens when very few Missourians are watching—especially in committees, substitutes, and late amendments. Lobbyists watch full-time. Citizens usually can’t.

The Remote Watch Team closes that gap by putting more eyes and ears on public proceedings—and by making it easier to learn quickly, together, in one place.

How it works (simple)

You’ll usually have two tabs open: the livestream/audio feed and the Signal chat. When you hear something important—or confusing—you post it. Others will confirm, add context, and help decide next steps.

Three easy ways to contribute

  • Listener: follow along in chat and learn what to watch for.
  • Note-taker: post quick, factual updates with time + bill number when you can.
  • Spotter: flag surprise moves (fast votes, rule suspensions, substitutes, or “previous question”).

What to listen for

  • Bill numbers called up on the floor (HB/SB/HJR/SJR) and whether they’re being debated, amended, or voted.
  • Committee substitutes, adopted amendments, and what witnesses are actually saying.
  • Procedural moves: “previous question,” motions to suspend rules, quick votes with little debate.
  • Statements that clarify intent: what supporters say it does vs. what opponents warn it will do.

Where to watch and listen

Missouri provides public audio/video access to floor sessions and many committee rooms. When you post, add a timestamp when possible—it helps others verify quickly.

How to post (keep it simple)

Short, factual, and easy to scan is best. If you’re not sure, post it as a question—someone else may confirm.

Quick post template

[Time] [House/Senate] [Floor or Committee Name]
Bill(s): HB____ / SB____ (or “not sure yet”)
What I heard: (1–3 sentences)
Status: (debate / amendment / vote / laid over / etc.)
Link: (feed/hearing URL)

Examples that help the team

  • “Anyone else hearing this?” — Great for learning and verification.
  • “HB1234 up now, amendment offered” — Fast heads-up for others to tune in.
  • “Committee substitute adopted” — Often where the real changes happen.

Keep it productive

  • Be factual: share what you heard; if unsure, say so and ask for confirmation.
  • Be respectful: accountability is not harassment. No threats, doxxing, or personal attacks.
  • Be specific: bill numbers, committee names, timestamps when possible.
  • Protect privacy: don’t share private phone numbers, addresses, or non-public personal info.

FAQ

Do I have to be in Jefferson City to help?

No, this team is intended for individuals monitoring remotely from home or work. If you're able to attend in person as well, that’s even better—our efforts support each other.

What if I can only help occasionally?

That’s fine. Even one short monitoring block during a key day can make a real difference. When big bills move quickly, extra listeners matter.

What if I’m new to this?

Perfect. Join the chat and follow along. You’ll learn quickly just by watching the conversation. Start by posting one question or one short summary—someone will help you fill in the gaps.

Ready to jump in?

Join now so you’re set up before the first day. Once you’re in, post a quick hello and we’ll help you get oriented.
